A New Spin on Helicopter Management

SAMS is a software application used by Sikorsky to enter and compile all data needed to export technical manuals for their aircraft before delivering to a customer.

The original SAMS application, written in VB6 in the mid-90’s had become unsupportable and was out of compliance by U.S. Military contract standards.

We had the benefit of doing initial interviews and shadow sessions with a large number of actual users of SAMS so see what worked well and where we could improve the system.

After the shadow sessions, personas and journey maps were created to provide an overview of the user and their work. Those were validated and wireframes were created with input from some of the users. Two rounds of mockups and clickable prototypes followed for a total of 57 high resolution screens.
